Card Rulings: Mermaid Archer?

Let's say I summon Deep Sea Diva to special summon Mermaid Archer and then I use Mermaid Archer's effect to equip Deep Sea Diva. Would i still be able to synchro using deep sea diva still... or would it now count as a magic/trap card? It didn't say specifically what the equip card becomes on mermaid archer...
