Is it normal for a guy to put a perminant ankle braclet on his girlfriend?

My new boyfriend invited me over to his hhouse then took me into the garage and put a chain on my ankle. I thought that was kind of sweet until he melted the one open link shut. I love him but I'm not sure if this is normal. He hasn't hit me or yelled but he is always writhing on me and drawling on me in sharpie and keeps trying to get me to let him cut his name into my skin. As appealing as it is to have "Johnny" cut perminantly into my chest i'm worried.
