I woke up with severe abdominal pain and now my kidneys are hurting. does anyone know what this could be?

Immediately after waking up and drinking a glass of water i began experiencing severe pain in my lower abdomen (right above the waistline). It would come in waves, every 10-15 min, and lasted a few minutes at a time. it felt like i had a hot knife in my gut, i was writhing in pain. After drinking water all day it has subsided to dull aches but my kidneys hurt? Yes, i am seeing a doctor tomorrow. I just wanted to know if anyone experienced this before or know what it is? Thanks
